Delving into the World of Quilting and Sewing

Over the past few weeks, I've become obsessed with sewing and quilting ideas.  I played with sewing a bit when I was a young teen - mostly piecework and small things that I put down quickly.  Now, the tiny bug that whispered in my ear off and on over the years has struck with full force, resulting in an abundance of sewing machine research and blog ogling (WOW, was that fun and inspirational! :D).  The Sewing Machine Hop was a genius idea and so fun to read - Sewing Machine Hop Link Party.

To that end - dear Robby bought me a sewing machine for my birthday (squeeeeee!).

I went to a couple of different local dealers to explore machines in person.  The first was Bernina World of Sewing in Raleigh.  They have a wonderfully pleasant staff and beautiful machines!  Also, the range of fabrics they have made me stop and go "Whoa!".  However, a Bernina that comes with the options I would like is a bit out of my price range for a first machine.  I feel a need to prove to myself that I'll stick with sewing before making an investment of that sort. :)

So off to Alexander's Sewing and Vacuum (Vacuum and Sewing?), as I read that they are a Janome dealer.  I should have done some more research before visiting them >.<  I felt as if I was an inconvenience to the gentleman.  He was abrubt and didn't seem interested in letting me try a machine or even seeing one.

I didn't let one surly man deter me from Janomes after all of the glowing recommendations online.  I ordered the Janome Quilter's Companion #49360 from HSN - My soon-to-be Janome.  It should be here fairly soon, and I am beyond excited.  What to make first?
